|MAKE|Hexbug cardboard roll bats

Love Halloween crafts?  Well this activity is just for you then!  We saw Red Ted Art share a great craft on their Instagram stories for fantastic litte cardboard roll people which moved around using Hexbugs!  I knew I had to give that a go but wanted to change it up a bit for Halloween.

For this craft, you will need:
1 cardboard roll
black paint
double sided tape
black craft foam
large googly eyes
a purple or green sharpie (optional)

1. Start by painting your cardboard roll black, you may need a few coats, we did 2 and as you can see, should really have done another to make it nice and black!

2. Once the roll is dry, use double sided tape to close the roll and cut out a small semi-circle to make the bats ears.

3. Cut a V shape at the bottom to make legs, this is really important if you do want to use with a Hexbug as they don't work well without this.

4. Cut out foam wings and attach to the cardboard bat, you can download our template here if you don't want to draw freehand.

5. If you would like coloured googly eyes, use a sharpie to colour over the top, it gives just the right amount of colour whilst still being about to see the black iris's.

Switch your Hexbug on, place your bat on top and watch him move around on his own!

  1. Such a fun way to use hexbugs. We had one in our goodie bag from Blog on but it hasn't really been played with. Can't wait to try this though!
