|FAMILY|a little update...

So... I've had a bit of an unplanned blogging hiatus!  Whilst I haven't been writing many actual blog posts I have been busy working 'behind the scenes' on LarabeeUK projects which I'll tell you more about in another post but for today I thought I'd give you a quick update on what's going on round here.

Firstly I got a bit of a strop on with blogging and just got myself in a bit of a funk, with the help of some wonderful blogging pals I got out of it and realised I was just being very silly.  The problem was, it made me not enjoy the process, but now after a little break I'm hoping to be back with a vengeance.

Then, just as this was happening, I was offered a fantastic promotion at work, I've already started and it is pretty intense but I'm loving it and I am going to be taking 2 qualifications and many many courses but I needed change at work and by goodness do I have that now.  How it will affect my blogging longer term, I just don't know but I'm hoping I'll be able to keep all the balls in the air, even if it means posting less.

T shocked us at the end of July by deciding that he no longer wanted a 'baby bottle' to go to bed!  This has been something that played on my mind for quite some time as at 3 1/2 he was already a good 2 years beyond when I wanted to get rid of it, I couldn't really see and end in sight but knew that we had to get rid before he started school.  Thankfully him stopping wearing pull ups at night (about a week before!) made him want to be a big boy and so all of his bottles went in the bin.  There has been a slight downside to this though, for 3 1/2 years T has used a bottle to settle to sleep, so he's really been struggling at bedtime.  Our old routine has gone out of the window and we're now working on a new one.  He has stopped crying now thankfully, that really was the worst thing, the poor little mite got so tired and frustrated he just cried and cried, even though I was cuddling him or with him, he still was inconsolable.

After tests, The Hubs has been diagnosed with a hole in the heart, which was highly likely to be the reason for his TIA.  Whilst this is great news in that he now has a reason why it happened, he is now going through tests to determine the treatment of this condition to try and reduce the risk of further attacks or a more serious stroke.  We're hoping that his tests will be done within the next few weeks so we know what's going on.

Kelsey did really well on her GCSE's she got everything she needed to stay on at her school to study her A-Levels, so we're really proud, she's now has to knuckle down to get the grades she needs to study her desired course at Bath Uni.

The Teens went to Florida and Mexico on holiday for a couple of weeks and Hayden goes back into year 10 next week starting his GCSE's.

So as you can see it's been quite an eventful few weeks!

|#toddlerapprovedtuesday|Week 44 - 25 August

LarabeeUK

Well I don't know about you but it's more like Autumn here now after a fabulous day on Saturday!  You can tell that the children are preparing to go back to school soon.  The mornings are getting darker, the evenings are getting chillier and the rain... well I just won't mention that ;)

I hope you've all managed to have a good week with your little ones or if like me you've not had a chance to write a new post for this week (again - sorry!) come over and link up an old one.

Remember you can post your weekly post to the #toddlerapprovedtuesday Facebook page too, I like every one which will mean you continue to show up in my feed when you post new posts!

If you are not yet in the Facebook group send us a request and we'll add you. Feel free to post anything in there all through the week if it's relevant.

This week we're doing a twitter share on Facebook so we can make sure we have all your twitter accounts, do pop over and leave yours for us so we can add you to our list :)

Thanks so much to everyone who joined in again last week.

This week I'm relying on the archives again this was a lovely activity that T and I used to enjoy, in fact if he saw this now he'd probably remember and want to do it again!  I hope you like this foil wrapping activity, I'd love to hear how your little ones liked it if you give it a go.

My showcase this week

Thanks to Kiddie Holidays for this great review of the Ullswater steamer, such an unusual day out and such beautiful scenery.  It's certainly one I'll be looking out for if I'm ever in the vicinity.

My second showcase is for these charming paper dolls from Pink's Charming, I love book inspired activities so this really appealed to me, it's not a Julia Donaldson book that I'm familiar with so I'll be on the lookout for a copy too.

Here are the rules:-

1. Link as many posts as you like (well with in reason!) BUT please remember to paste the #ToddlerApprovedTuesday badge on each post you would like to link up. No badge, no comment, no share, and your posts will be deleted sorry if this seems harsh but it's just not fair on others who do make the effort. We've yet to delete a post but you may have noticed that we have started to not comment if We see no badge!

2. Pop by and comment on two or three other posts, more would be great if you can.

Even if you don't have a blog, please do join in by using the hashtag for your toddler approved tweets and Instagram posts, they will still be counted for the showcase! We have changed the way we share your posts, it takes so much time to pin and tweet and comment etc, so heres what is going to happen: We are opening up the Toddler Approved Tuesday Pinterest board to you guys too. Just send myself or Becky an email with your Pinterest name and we will add you, there is no limit on how many you add, it doesn't just have to be the post you link up with.

Hello again!  I hope that everyone is having a great summer holiday and I hope the weather where you are is a little better than where I am :)  I'm already in Autumn mode because the sunshine seems to have disappeared here!

Remember you can post your weekly post to the #toddlerapprovedtuesday Facebook page too, I like every one which will mean you continue to show up in my feed when you post new posts!

The #tatsummerfun activity and photo challenge started last week, look out for a round up post of my favourite's later, you can find more details here, but basically it's an Instgram photo-a-day challenge even if you're having time off blogging over the summer, you can still join in with that if you like!  And it's not restricted to just small people, we'd love to see some of your older children participating too!

Thanks so much to everyone who joined in again last week.

This week I've got a simple little sensory activity for you again, it's one we did when T was 18 months old and he loved it (I think he still would to be honest!)

Becky has this cute 5 little speckled frogs post for you this week.  I love those frogs, they are just so cute!

For my showcase this week:

This hello kitty birthday party printable from Keeping it real are fab!  I wouldn't be able to use them, but for anyone with little girls (or boys who like hello kitty!) they would be perfect (NOTE 16/12/15 this is no longer on the Keeping it real website).

I thought that this puzzle treasure hunt activity from Mummy on a budget gives a fantastic new spin on an old toy, it's such a great game to extend something you already have laying around the house.

|REVIEW|ravensburger 1000 piece puzzle review

If you are a regular follower of mine you will probably know that I've been a bit stressed out lately so I've been really trying to relax a little rather than sitting on my iPad all evening. I really will write a post soon, there's no big drama just struggling to juggle those balls ;)

A good blogging buddy recommended trying a puzzle or jigsaw in the evening as a screen free distraction so when I was offered the opportunity to review one of the new Ravensburger puzzles I was pretty chuffed!

Ok so let me start by saying I have not really ever done a jigsaw on my own in my adult life! {gasp!} The Mother in law likes to to them and so I join in with her and I used to do them with my Grandma when her eyesight was better. And I have memories of many happy times in my grandparents caravan with my sister doing puzzles with them!

Anyway, let's just say I totally under-estimated how difficult a 1000 piece puzzle would be, but I do mean this is a good, challenging way!

I was sent the glorious vintage puzzle which has lots of pieces which are very similar making it quite a challenge.

1000 pieces really are a lot!!

I found it so relaxing sorting through the pieces I made great progress in my first evening and completed all round the edge.

I've not made much progress lately as T's bedtime routine is all awry and so I'm not getting much time to myself but as I have it in this handy little case thing which the MIL gave me its nice and easy to slide out from under the sofa when I have five minutes to myself.

This week we are on holiday and so I'll be doing more and hope to get The teens involved too!

Since telling my MIL about doing this puzzle she's given me a couple more to try!

These puzzles retail at £11.99 and are really high quality.

I can't wait to get this one complete and start on my next one.

Disclaimer: I was sent this puzzle free of charge on exchange for this honest review.

|FAMILY|get that hotel feeling at home

I love the feeling of staying in a hotel and it seems to be rubbing off onto T too, he keeps asking when our next hotel break is!!!

Look out for a Travelodge review coming very soon!

For now here are our suggestions for having a hotel break at home!

1. Clear the clutter
2. Have clean sheets and make your bed
3. All snuggle up to watch TV in bed with snacks
4. Keep water by your bed
5. Have a shower or bath in the afternoon
6. Keep to just your essentials
7. Make sure your bathroom/ensuite is clean and clear of clutter
8. Sleep in!
9. Switch off the phone and don't answer the door!
10. Lay on your bed and read.
11. Install a mini-bar, yes really, if only temporary with a bottle of wine in an icebucket!
12. Have breakfast in bed
13. Add a mattress topper to your bed for extra indulgence

This week I have an old post again for you, I'm hoping to get back to 'normal' by next week!  In the meantime I'm sharing some posts that we enjoyed when T was a bit smaller.  This was our space foam activity which not only produced a lot of fun, also made some lovely artwork too!

This week Over at 3princessesand1dude's the monsters have been making chunky vegetable lasagne and it looks fab!
For my showcase this week I have...

This awesome weather chart from Twinkletwinklehereyouare is just fab, I love the day of the week ducks.  I've been thinking about doing T a weather chart and this has totally inspired me.

I really like the paint your own pyjama kits reviewed in this weeks post from TheFreeRangeFamily I'm definitely banking this one for a future cousin club or sleepover with J, T & Molly Moo.  I think they are a great idea!

|REVIEW|bamboo mattress topper review

We have recently been lucky enough to review a bamboo mattress topper for T's bed. I ordered from Amazon on Thursday evening and delivery was attempted on Saturday!!

The first thing I noticed was how plush it is, it's made the bed really comfy and just gives that added bit of luxury, it fitted his small single bed perfectly and the pelmet is deep enough to fit the mattress securely and hasn't moved despite his constant tossing and turning!

I thought the price was fantastic, we paid a lot more for our down topper which is no-where near as good as this one is and just doesn't compete in terms of value and quality.

I really like the fact that its hypoallergenic, which should help with T's asthma.

I'm hoping that this is going to provide him with many years of comfort.

Here's the technical details from Amazon!

  • Plush rayon from bamboo mattress pad filled with hypoallergenic alternative down cluster fiber
  • Natural rayon from bamboo fabric helps regulate body temperature while allowing mattress to cool
  • Double Needle Baffle box stitch prevents fill from shifting or moving around

So if you are tempted to purchase one yourself, pop in this code: 3ADSTFO7 for a 10% discount until 1 September.

Disclaimer: For the propose of this review I was provided a voucher to cover 99% of the cost of the mattress. All opinions my own.

A huge thank you everyone who joined in last week and everyone who commented.  I'm so sorry I've not yet completed all my comments or replies to your comments, I will get this done by then end of today I PROMISE!  Things are just a bit manic round here at the moment, I will write a post and update you all, but let's just say for now that things are a-changing and I'm not sure how I'm going to fit everything in!  I'm trying my best and I hope you bear with me whilst I sort this out x

It's a golden oldie from me this week as I've had the most manic week ever!  We used this pom-pom and cotton wool ice cream sundae sensory activity for ages when T was younger, he loved scoping up the ice cream into different bowls and sundae dishes!

My showcase posts this week

As you know I love a good play dough invitation, so when i saw this fab bubble dough recipe from new linker What my fridge says I knew it had to be in my showcase.  I enjoy finding new dough recipes and this one sounds much 'cleaner'

I really like the spontinaety of this toddler on a train journey post from The Mummy Stylist it's absolutely not something I'd ever do so it was great for me and really inspired me to encourage T to lead some of our days out.
