|FUN|world cup sensory tray

T loves having a sensory tray on the go, we actually use a little sand/water table that we bought in the sale from Tesco last summer, it's great as it doubles as a little snack/ipad/drawing table when the lid is on it!  It's not available any longer buy they have a similar one click here if you are interested.

I decided that I wanted to use rice as our sensory base and chose to use yellow and green, the colours of the Brazil flag.
I used 1 1kg bag of rice roughly split between 2 plastic bags and started adding the food colouring, I used 1 tbsp of yellow food colouring and 2 green, I'm not sure why but food colouring just doesn't seem to colour as well as it used to, probably something to do with 'E' numbers and natural colours.  I really wanted a more intense green but no matter how much I added, it still dried fairly light.  I added 2 squirts of hand sanitiser too, I didn't do this last time I made coloured rice and although the colour was really good it did come off on T's hands.
This time, I got T to help me mix the colour  into the rice, he had a great time throwing the bag around although he didn't mix it in that well!

I poured the coloured rice onto a tray and left for 24 hours to dry, it dried really well although as I said, the green could have been a deeper colour.

To our sensory tray I added:-
mini trophy cups
football confetti
football cupcake rings
mini footballer cake decorations
I also found an image on google images of the world cup flags, I printed this off and laminated it, I cut them all out and put them in the sensory tray too.
To extend the flag activities, I will show T a flag from his world cup sticker album and ask him to find the right one in the rice.
I've also printed off another copy of the image to use as a match game.
